Following are the guidelines to travel in India. One must follow all these guidelines to avoid any kind of inconvenience while travelling in India:
• Please check with the local tourist office regarding liquor consumption rules, to avoid any problem. As, in some places it is not allowed to have alcohol in public places, and some states even have prohibited the consumption of alcohol.
• Always try to bargain while shopping in flea markets.
• Before leaving for India or any other country, find out if any endemic disease is prevailing in the country. If yes then take proper vaccination and medications after consulting your doctor.
• You should try to get information about the laws and regulations prevailing in India, to make your trip hassle free.
• It is very important to inform your relatives or friends in your country and India about your whereabouts. In addition, keep copies of your travel documents with them keeping in mind any unforeseeable circumstances.
• It is advisable to keep your wallet in an inside jacket pocket or side trouser pocket instead the of rear pocket.
• It is important to keep all your valuables and documents including jewellery, passport, return tickets, etc in the safe deposit at the hotel. Do not leave these valuable things unattended in your room, and also avoid carrying large sums of cash with you.
• Do not open the door to any unsolicited maintenance people or unexpected people. It is always better to exercise caution. You may also call the front desk or the reception of the hotel in case of any suspicion.
• Hand your baggage to the hotel’s bell staff only and not to any other person. Always make sure to collect a receipt for the stored luggage.
• For purpose of accommodation, never take advice of taxi drivers, as they may get commission for taking you to the hotel, which might be lousy.
• If you have a meeting with an unknown, person or client then try to fix it in a public place like a restaurant.
• Avoid travelling alone at night and taking short cuts, or going through narrow alleys or poorly lit streets.
• Do not discuss your plans regarding travelling, with any strange person.
• Avoid talking or arguing in louder tones. Never book tickets or rooms, through touts.
